Has Matthews ever said this? He did leave the USA to play in Switzerland in his draft year.

No American wants to play in Canada.  Everyone knows this.

So is Marner. Marner would be working just as hard for any other team if the Leafs hadn't taken him.

Yes Ryan, Marner would work just as hard for an other team that drafted him.

BUT would he bolt that team to play for his hometown team that he idolized as a child if he had the opportunity and the paycheck to go with it?

Traveres came to Toronto because he had the chance to come here to (hopefully) win a cup in his home town..

Maybe Matthews adopts Toronto and Canada and never wants to leave but I think he would go to play for his hometown team if the money and opportunity were there to do so.

Matthews left the USA for Switzerland because he wanted to play in a men's league and that was the only way he could do so. AND why not see a beautiful country while playing the game you love.

In the 14 years of the Cap Era that's the only time that has happened.

Garret Sparks to Vegas for a 4th and the contract of David Clarkson.

LTIR coming out the wazoo.

So we have a 4th rounder, any danger of Clarkson coming off LTIR? If he does, we're fucked?

Clarkson is coaching a high school hockey team in Ohio. He’s done.

Fitting that contract comes home to die. Do we get any cap benefit out of it, or is it just the 4th RD pick?

Nice cap flexibility for 2019-2020.

Anyone else have any LTIR contracts we can target?

Plus the $750k saving of Sparks.

Barrie will wear #94 for the Leafs this season.

So I'm guessing Marner signs once the season has started.

Because both Horton and Clarkson are known to be on LTIR for the upcoming season they can be put on LTIR now. Allowing the Leafs to exceed the cap by their combined salary ($10.55M) this summer.

A bunch of depth signings made official...

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed free-agent forwards Garrett Wilson and Pontus Aberg to one-year deals worth $725,000 and $700,000 respectively, the team announced Wednesday.

Additionally, the club inked forwards Tyler Gaudet, Kalle Kossila, and Nick Shore along with defenseman Kevin Gravel and made forward Kenny Agostino's two-year deal official.

Aberg is intriguing, though apparently a disaster in his own zone.

Some will play with the Leafs.  Injuries will happen...Hyman is already out for a while.  Who knows what happens with Marner...

If everything goes perfect we may see none of them, but how often does that happen?
